HARIBO’s story began in Bonn in 1920, when Hans Riegel founded the company. The name is an acronym for HAns  RIegel  BOnn, and the brand quickly became a household name in the German confectionery world. Just a few years later, the ‘Tanzbär’ (Dancing Bear) was created  – the precursor to the later ‘Goldbären’ (Gold Bears)  – the product that continues to define the brand to this day.

Over the decades, a diverse range of products emerged, featuring numerous classics that made HARIBO famous far beyond Germany’s borders. The famous slogan ‘HARIBO makes children happy  – and adults too’ has been part of the brand for generations and remains inextricably linked to it to this day.
