The history of Mercedes-Benz begins with a milestone in mobility: in 1886, Carl Benz applied for a patent for his motor car  – the world’s first motor car. At the same time, Gottlieb  Daimler and Wilhelm  Maybach were also working on the fundamentals of motorised vehicles. In 1926, Benz  &  Cie. and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft merged to form Daimler-Benz AG, marking the birth of the Mercedes-Benz brand.

From these humble beginnings emerged a brand that has played a decisive role in shaping the history of the automobile.
